A Liberty Stadium crowd of 20,397 watched as goals from Nathan Dyer, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Marvin Emnes secured a place for the Swans in the 4th Round.

7 years ago on 23 September 2008 – In the first meeting between the two sides in over 9 years, the Swans ran out 1 nil winners over Cardiff City in this Carling Cup 3rd Round game at the Liberty thanks to Jordi Gomez’s 57th minute free-kick. A voiciferous crowd of 17,411 watched as the Swans inflicted the first defeat of the season on the Bluebirds, for whom Stephen McPhail was sent off.

9 years ago on 23 September 2006 – Leon Knight grabbed a late consolation goal for the Swans as Huddersfield Town ran out 2-1 winners at the Liberty Stadium in Coca Cola League One in front 12,202.

15 years ago on 23 September 2000 – A crowd of 11,003 witnessed the Swans getting hammered 5-1 by Reading at the Madejski Stadium in Nationwide League Division Two as Steve Watkin scored a consolation goal for the visitors. It was a bad-day off the field as well for the Swans, as problems in the boardroom had seen the removal of chairman Steve Hamer, making the way for Neil McClure to become the new club chairman.

20 years ago on 23 September 2000 – Carl Heggs scored a 2nd half equaliser for the Swans as they were held to a 1-1 draw at the Vetch Field by Oxford United. A crowd of 2,505 watched this Endsleigh Insurance League Division Two game.

26 years ago on 23 September 1989 – The Swans new central defender Mark ‘Chopper’ Harris made his debut in this 6-1 drubbing at the Vetch Field against Reading in Barclays League Division Three. Stewart Phillips was the Swans goalscorer as the 3,511 crowd witnessed Swansea’s heaviest league defeat since losing by the same margin to Workington Town in 1965!

29 years ago on 23 September 1986 – The Fourth Division Swans lost 2-0 to Leicester City in Littlewoods Challenge Cup 2nd Round 1st Leg at the Vetch Field. The 9,500 crowd saw the Swans give a good account of themselves against their higher league opponents.

37 years ago on 23 September 1978 – A goal in each half at Sealand Road, saw Chester end the Swan’s unbeaten record in Football League Division Three. The visitors cause wasn’t helped by Alan Curtis leaving the field through injury and Tommy Smith being sent off.
