Swans Ladies out to put title celebrations on ice

This Sunday sees the Swansea City Ladies entertain Cardiff Met Women at the Llandarcy Academy of Sport, in what promises to be a mouthwatering clash between the old adversaries.

In recent seasons the Swans and the Archers have battled for supremacy in both the League and Cup competitions, with both clubs having enjoyed success, usually at the expense of the other.

The Swans Ladies currently sit in 3rd place in the table, a point behind Port Talbot Town Ladies but having played two games less, but an insurmountable 14 points behind league leaders Cardiff Met.

The game on Sunday takes on even more significance, as the university side will clinch the Orchard Welsh Premier Women’s League title if they avoid defeat against Ian Owen’s side.

Of course with the sides also due to meet once again in the League Cup final on 24 March, there is some psychological advantage to be gained by whomever is victorious at Llandarcy come 4pm on Sunday afternoon.

Met have won both of the games between the sides this season thus far, a 2-0 in the WPWL back in October and then a 2-1 victory in the FAW Premier Women’s Cup 2nd Round.

The last four league games between the sides in Swansea have been tight affairs, with one win apiece (both 2-1) and two draws.

Met are currently unbeaten in the league this season, but with the Swans Ladies currently on a seven game unbeaten run, the Archers will face a severe test of their credentials this weekend.

Games between the sides are never short of incident though and fans can expect another entertaining game between arguably the two best amateur Women’s football teams in Wales at the moment.

Entry to the game at Llandarcy is free and kick-off is at 2pm, so why not come along and support the Swans, whilst enjoying an afternoon of football.
