Swans sign Man City starlet Finley Burns on loan

Swansea City have this afternoon confirmed the signing of Finley Burns from Manchester City on loan until the end of the season.

The 18 year old centre-back has made one senior appearance for Pep Guardiola’s side in the EFL Cup against Wycombe Wanderers last September, but will be a welcome addition to Martin’s squad given the recent departures of Ethan Laird, Jake Bidwell and Brandon Cooper.

“Fin is an outstanding young player. It enables one of our players to go out and play. Hopefully we will help develop Man City’s player,” said Martin in an interview with Wales Online, adding:

“I think it’s a really good fit for all parties. We’re really excited to work with him, and we’re really excited for Brandon who has been desperate to go out and play.”

Standing at 6ft 5″, Burns will add some much needed height to a Swansea squad who’s average height is just 5ft 9″ and arrives with an impressive CV from his parent club.

Manchester City announced the deal on their website earlier, whilst giving an overview of the England Youth Level International.

Burns has progressed through the City Academy ranks since joining aged 13 and has helped the Under-18s win the 2020 FA Youth Cup before moving up to the Elite Development Squad (EDS), where he was a key figure in the 2020-21 Premier League 2 triumph.
