Swansea City 5 QPR 1 – Under 23 Professional Development League

A very pleasing and entertaining game on home turf.

We won 5-1 but could have had double figures, such was our dominance.

Back 3 of Cameron Evans, Tiv Rushesha and recent recruit Jack Stafford; wingbacks Ogbeta on the left, Lincoln McFayden on the right; middle grouping of Azeem Abdulai in front of the back 3 with Joel Cotterill, Cameron Congreve and Yan Dhanda supporting Kyle Joseph as the lone number 9.

We started brightly, although QPR got an opening goal on 15 minutes with a shot from the edge of the box following a scuffed corner. That was pretty much the visitors’ only threat on goal until their centre forward headed a free kick against the bar on 70 minutes.

The defensive trio was comfortable, the midfield play was incisive and we created a host of chances throughout. Kyle Joseph’s 1st and 4th goals were testimony to his belligerence and refusal to give up possession to get shots away.  He may still only be 20, but it’s clear that he has a presence that unsettles defenders at this level. Likewise, Ogbeta immediately showed he had the beating of his man and put in a promising 45 minutes. Dhanda is clearly too good for this standard of football – he pretty much lit up the game every time he got the ball and created numerous opportunities for colleagues, notably McFayden once the latter had switched over to the left in the 2nd half.

Good to see sub Ruben Davies convert a 5th following an excellent flowing move, started in his own box by Rushesha and moved precisely down the other end via Dhanda and McFayden.

It was one of those games where everyone – including the substitutes Lloyd, Davies and Jacob Jones – played their parts. Very refreshing to watch on a sunny afternoon.
