Swans Sporting Director Mark Allen sacked

Rumours are rife this evening that Swansea City have parted company with Sporting Director Mark Allen, just eight months into the job.

John Percy from the Daily Telegraph, usually a reputable source, broke the news at 6:30pm with the following post on social media:

Allen was appointed to the role of Sporting Director by Chief Executive Julian Winter in August 2021, having previously been the Club’s Academy Director since January 2021.

However sources close to the club say that Winter is supposedly unimpressed with the former Rangers and Manchester City man’s performance in the role, whilst others have mentioned Allen’s transfer targets not being aligned with those wanted by Russell Martin.

The club are yet to officially comment, but whatever the reason, the move has come as a shock.

Only last Thursday evening, Mark Allen accompanied Russell Martin to a Swansea City fan event in Ammanford cricket club – just as they had done at the same event in Port Talbot just a couple of weeks earlier – where the pair outlined and discussed the Swans playing style and plans for the future.

Clearly the blueprint for next season and beyond, no longer involves Welshman Allen.
