Ladies bolster squad ahead of Champions League campaign

Swansea City Ladies Team Manager Ian Ower has added several players to his squad ahead of the 2022-2023 Adran Premier and Champions League campaign.

The signings will add some additional strength in depth and experience to the squad, who will look to continue their dominance of the domestic game in Wales this season, having secured their third consecutive league title last season.

Here is a closer look at some of the squad additions.

Monet Legall

Signed from Cheltenham Town Ladies, the versatile Legall can play on either wing and despite being only 22, already has a wealth of experience of the Women’s game in Wales, having previously played for both Cyncoed and Cardiff City Ladies.

Monet scored for the Swans Ladies during the 4-2 defeat at Plymouth Argyle Women on the weekend.

Chelsea Herbert

Goalkeeper Herbert spent last season with Barry Town and is no stranger to the Swans, having previously played for Abergavenny and Cyncoed.

A self-confessed Swansea City fan, 21 year old Chelsea will provide competition for Claire Skinner and club stalwart Gemma Border.

Lucy Finch

No-nonsense defender Finch arrives from Cardiff Met having spent the past three seasons with the Cyncoed campus based side, making almost 60 appearances for the side in all competitions.

Having previously played in the Champions League with Met, 23 year old Finch will add some additional experience and strength to an already strong defensive unit.

Emily Freeman

22 year old Freeman, joins from Swansea University having been named in the Genero Adran South Team of the Season for 2021/22.

The goalscoring midfielder, scored 10 goals in just 20 appearances for the University side last season.

Other players have also joined the club, helping boost the Swans Ladies Under 19s side, as several of last season’s stand out performers, such as Gwen Horgan, step up into the senior side.

One notable departure however is speedster Rhianne Oakley, who has joined Cardiff City.

The Swans Ladies kick-off their quest for Champions League glory in Greece on 18 August, when they take on PAOK.
