Martin: “We are just beating ourselves at the minute”

Swansea City fell to a disappointing Championship defeat in Teesside this afternoon, as Middlesbrough ran out 2-1 winners at the Riverside stadium.

Boro, who just like last week’s visitors to the Swansea dot com stadium Luton, were without a Championship win this season.

However, as always seems to be the case with the Swans, Boro put that record to the sword as first half goals from Riley McGree and Matt Crooks, gave the home side the required cushion to go on and claim their first three points of the season, despite Joel Piroe’s late penalty.

To add insult to injury for the visitors, Ben Cabango was shown a red card by referee Bobby Madley – for a second bookable offence – after foolishly pushing Boro’s Isaiah Jones in an off the ball incident on 87 minutes.

Russell Martin said in his post-match press conference that he felt his side had given themselves too much to do, after being punished in the first half, despite limiting the home side to just 3 shots on goal all afternoon.

This is what Martin had to say in his post match press conference.

The Swans now turn their attention to the tricky visit to Stoke City on Wednesday night, whom at the time of writing, are without a manager after the sacking of Michael O’Neill after just 5 games last week.
