Swansea City boss Russell Martin has confirmed that Joe Allen will miss the first south Wales derby of the Championship season on Sunday.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon, Martin said that Allen would miss out on Sunday due to his hamstring injury, saying:
“He’s angry and upset at missing this one for sure. We’ll just have to keep assessing the situation. He’s got an unbelievable mentality. We hope that at some point we’ll have more clarity on that one.”
With the World Cup now less than a month away, the news won’t make for pleasant reading for the Red Wall either.
On a more positive note, Martin confirmed that whilst Ryan Manning and Jamie Paterson are recovering from hamstring and groin problems, he did hope to have one of them back for Cardiff’s visit to the Swansea.com stadium.
Given the nature of the injuries, it is likely that Manning will be the one to be involved, which is a welcome boost for the Swans given his fantastic form.
