Folk will have seen the highlights, so it’ll be evident what great quality we showed in both creating and finishing chances this afternoon.
The combination play between Ben Lloyd and Liam Smith in particular was a joy to watch. Birmingham had no answer to Smith’s probing breaks, they reorganised after 20 minutes from 4-4-2 to 5-3-2 but Smith continued to open them up time and time again. Great executions by Josh Thomas for his 4 goal tally and nice to see the goals spread out among his colleagues as Birmingham collapsed.
Azeem Abdulai dominated from deep and was quick to break into space. One or two blips aside, our keeper and back 4 looked totally comfortable moving the ball around before releasing our midfield to create more problems for an overworked visiting defence.
So many good goals, Hurford’s was perhaps the most audacious.
Line-up 4-1-4-1: Evan Watts; Joe Thomas, Filip Lissah, Tiv Rushesha, Sam Leverett; Azeem Abdulai (sub Mitchell Bates 54m); Cameron Congreve (sub Corey Hurford 54m), Joel Cotterill, Ben Lloyd, Liam Smith (sub Kian Jenkins 77m); Josh Thomas (sub Ruben Davies 54m).
Joel Cotterill dropped into Abdulai’s position, we took a little bit of time to adjust to the substitutions and Birmingham finally got on the scoresheet before normal service was resumed.
It will have been the last appearances in a Swans shirt for a number of these lads. Hopefully, they will feel that they have gone out on a high note.
Great racket as usual at the main stadium from the attending schoolkids.
The match rounded off a cracking season for this team.
For the record: Joe Thomas 1-0 4m; Josh Thomas 2-0 12m; Smith 3-0 14m; Josh Thomas 4-0 18m; Josh Thomas 5-0 30m; Josh Thomas 6-0 47m; Congreve 7-0 52m; Patterson 7-1 65m; Rushesha pen 8-1 72m; Hurford 9-1 76m; Leverett 10-1 86m.
