Swansea City fell to a narrow defeat in their first away game of the new Championship season at West Brom.
The Baggies celebrated their first victory of the season in an exciting 3-2 win over the Swans at the Hawthorns, as over 2,000 Jacks made the trip to back Michael Duff’s team.
Semi Ajayi gave West Brom the lead after Swansea couldn’t handle a long throw-in.
After the break, Swansea’s goalkeeper, Carl Rushworth, accidentally put the ball into his own net during another set-piece from West Brom. Then, John Swift extended West Brom’s lead with a successful penalty kick, making it seem like they had control of the game.
However, even though Swansea had been playing poorly for most of the game, they didn’t give up. Harry Darling scored a header, and Nathan Wood managed to bundle the ball into the net for his first senior goal on 80 minutes, making the ending of the match very intense.
Swansea’s Ben Cabango almost scored a tying goal that would have been quite dramatic, but West Brom managed to hold on during the nine minutes of added time, securing their first points in the 2023-24 season.
This loss marked Swansea’s first defeat in the league since mid-March, and it was also the first time they experienced a loss under the leadership of their head coach, Michael Duff.
Next up for the Swans is a home game against Coventry City on Saturday, when Michael Duff’s men will look to get their first league win of the season.
