Barrott to referee televised south Wales derby

The first south Wales derby of the 2023-204 Championship season at Cardiff City on Saturday evening will be officiated by Yorkshire referee Samuel Barrott.

Referee Barrott will be assisted by Craig Taylor and Sam Lewis, with Robert Madley the 4th Official for the game at the Cardiff City stadium, which kicks off at 7:45pm in front of the Sky Sports cameras.

This will be the third time that Barrott has taken charge of a Swansea City game, all of which have been away from the Swansea.com stadium, the last time being the Swans 3-2 defeat at West Brom last month.

Sam Barrott Championship 2023-2024 Record

This will be the fifth EFL Championship game that Barrott has officiated so far this season, having handed out 16 yellow and 2 red cards to date. No doubt the official will be handing out several more cards during Saturday evening’s encounter.

Four of those yellow cards were given to Ben Cabango, Oliver Cooper, Harry Darling and Nathan Wood during the West Brom game. Barrott also awarded a penalty to the home side when Darling needlessly fouled the Baggies Conor Townsend near the byline.

It will be the first time he has been the official for a Cardiff City game this season.
