Swansea City endured a tough night at the King Power Stadium, succumbing to Championship leaders Leicester City.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall swiftly put the Foxes in the lead during the third minute, capitalizing on an opportunity created behind Swansea’s defence.
Despite a shaky start, the Swans settled into the game. Jerry Yates, Jamie Paterson, and Harry Darling had decent chances to level the score, but unfortunately, they failed to convert.
These missed opportunities proved costly as Stephy Mavididi’s penalty and Yunus Akgun’s finish sealed Leicester’s victory. Even though Joe Allen managed to pull one back with a late goal, it wasn’t enough to overturn the deficit.
On a positive note for the Swans, Ben Cabango made a welcomed return from injury as a substitute. Additionally, new signing Ronald showcased glimpses of his pace and skill during his debut, earning 45 minutes of play.
Overall it was a frustrating night for the Swans as they couldn’t capitalize on their positive moments against a side seemingly poised for a swift return to the Premier League.
Manager Luke Williams’ felt it was an improved showing from his side, but lapses of concentration in key moments cost them dearly.
In the starting line-up, Swansea made four changes from the FA Cup defeat at Bournemouth, introducing Carl Rushworth, Darling, Josh Tymon, and Paterson. Meanwhile, Brazilian winger Ronald and Cabango featured among the substitutes.
The Swans return to SA1 for their next Championship game, when they entertain Plymouth Argyle at the Swansea.com stadium for the first meeting between the two sides in south Wales since August 2021.
