Williams rues missed chances in Plymouth defeat

Swansea City were left to rue missed chances as they fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat against Plymouth Argyle in the EFL Championship this afternoon.

The Swans dominated possession and created a host of opportunities throughout the match, but they were unable to find a way past a resolute Plymouth defence.

Former Swan Morgan Whittaker scored the winner for the visitors from a well rehearsed move from a corner in the first half, to earn the Pilgrims their first away win of the season.

Head coach Luke Williams was left frustrated by his side’s lack of clinical edge in front of goal, but he praised their overall performance.

“We had enough chances to win the game comfortably,” Williams said. “We created some good openings, but we just couldn’t take them.

“That’s the difference at this level. You have to be clinical in both boxes, and we weren’t today.”

Despite the defeat, there were plenty of positives for Williams to take from the performance.

“I was pleased with the way we played for large parts of the game,” he said. “We controlled possession well and created some good chances.

“We just need to be more ruthless in front of goal. If we can do that, then I’m confident that we’ll start picking up wins again.”

Williams praised the debut performances of his new signings, Charles Sagoe Jr and Przemyslaw Placheta, who added pace and width to the attack, with Brazilian Ronald making his home debut, whose performance was a highlight for the home side on a gloomy afternoon.
