Swansea City head coach Luke Williams acknowledged his side paid the price for not capitalising on their first-half dominance as they settled for a 1-1 draw in the South Wales derby.
Liam Cullen’s early goal, a close-range finish after Ethan Horvath parried a Ronald volley, had put the Swans on course for what looked like their sixth win in seven derby matches against Cardiff.
Swansea controlled much of the first half and created several promising opportunities, but they failed to extend their lead.
The second half saw Cardiff grow into the game, and they found an equaliser when Callum Robinson finished off Ollie Tanner’s cutback. The match turned into an end-to-end affair as both sides sought a winner, but neither could find a breakthrough, leaving the points shared at the Swansea.com Stadium.
“The frustration comes from not finishing some of our chances. I felt we had good situations where we could have done better and, had we done so, I think we could have come away with all the points,” said the Swans boss.
“When you are at 1-0, the longer the game goes on the more you start to worry if that second goal doesn’t drop and we got punished for that.
“It took us a little while to get a foothold, but once we did there was a real chunk of the game where we controlled things. We scored and we needed to score again in that spell.
“We tailed off a little at the end of the first half, we made a few sloppy mistakes and that opened the game up and we have to learn from that.
“We have seen that this group can be tough and battle, and we did that towards the end, but we are better when we have that control and we struggled to really dominate the game in the way we should do.”
