We competed well against a really top side says Williams

Head coach Luke Williams praised Swansea City’s determination after Joe Allen’s stoppage-time header salvaged a point against West Bromwich Albion at the Swansea.com Stadium.

In a tight contest with limited clear-cut chances, the visitors seemed set to claim victory when substitute Tom Fellows capitalized on a swift counter-attack to break the deadlock in the second half.

However, the Swans refused to give in, and Wales international Allen, who had been on the pitch for less than 10 minutes, delivered the equalizer with a perfectly placed glancing header from Ronald’s volleyed cross deep into added time to break the Baggies hearts.

Williams acknowledged the fatigue affecting both teams after playing their fourth game in 10 days but expressed pride in his side’s resilience, marking a second consecutive home fixture where they struck late to secure a vital result, after the last-gasp 2-1 win over Luton Town 6 days ago.

“Against a really top side, I think we competed well,” Williams told BBC Wales in his post-match press conference.

“We had two really special performances here [wins against QPR and Luton in Swansea’s previous home games] that we’d almost forgotten about because of a really heavy defeat and then this stuff and the speculation that was handled poorly by myself.

“That’s taken our memory away from those two performances and I now hope that we can reflect back with this bit of a break and think ‘we’ve done well in that period of time’ and look forward to the rest of the season now.”
