Sheehan pleased with Swans gritty win over Derby County

Alan Sheehan admitted that while the match against Derby County may not have been the most aesthetically pleasing, he was pleased to see Swansea City find a way to secure a crucial 1-0 victory at the Swansea.com Stadium.

Jisung Eom was the hero, scoring the only goal of the game with 11 minutes remaining, meeting Josh Key’s cross at the back post to end Derby’s four-match winning streak.

Sheehan had predicted a tough battle, with both sides fully aware that a win would provide a vital boost to their hopes of maintaining their Championship status. And that’s exactly what it proved to be – a tense, cagey affair with few clear-cut chances.

Despite the lack of glamour, Swansea showed great resolve to register their 11th clean sheet of the season, and Eom’s composed finish in the closing stages ensured they claimed three valuable points.

“It was a difficult game, and we have won a game in the Championship which is not an easy thing to do.

“We defended really well as a team, kept a clean sheet and showed that character and resilience we talk about. It was a real team performance.

“We would have loved to create more, but we stood up to the challenge.”
