Ricardo’s refereeing career began in 2013 when a broken wrist sidelined him from playing contact sports. His P.E. teacher handed him the whistle, setting him on the path to officiating.
He progressed steadily, reaching National League level in 2022 before overseeing his first EFL match in April 2023, when Crewe faced Swindon in League Two.
During the 2023/24 season, he officiated 24 games across the National League and EFL competitions. His Championship debut came on 1 January 2025, when he was the referee for Millwall’s clash with Oxford.
So far during the 2024/25 season, he has taken charge of 27 matches in all competitions, issuing 130 yellow cards and three reds.
