York City 1 Swans 0 – Match Report

Saturday 7th August 1999 – York City 1 v 0 Swansea City – Nationwide League Division Three

Just returned from York with my 2 sons, and the phrase ‘here we go again’ comes to mind. We played some nice football in areas where it does not hurt the opposition. York did not have a look in until they scored (sorry but Thomas was to blame as he should have cleared first time & not try to run out with it).

The rest of the game was played like a practice match until the sub of Price for Cusack. Cusack (Captain????? ) should lead by example, but did’nt break sweat. At last some urgency but yet again to late, why oh why do we only start playing in the last 15mins.

Again the defence was sound but no playmaker in midfield to supply any half chances, and no sharpness up front, showed by Watkin when he rounded the goalkeeper stopped to read the programme had a cup of tea then thought ‘ I can score’ — too late, tackled.

We actually went up with a hope of a draw, but nothing seen to think of other than a mid-table position.

Of the players who put any effort in Bound, Smith & Thomas, the player I feel most sorry for is Roger, who has saved us time and time again and shown loyalty. Although he is Swansea maybe he should take a chance of success somewhere else as it does not look like it is going to come here.

Well there it is, the thoughts of 3 disgruntled exiles who thought ‘maybe just maybe’. It looks like a long season let’s hope were wrong.
