Colin Staples stands down as Head Coach

Swansea City Ladies Head Coach Colin Staples, has decided to stand down from his role at the club.

After steering the Ladies to a very successful League and Cup double winning campaign last season, the highly experienced and respected Staples announced his decision via twitter on Tuesday evening.

The news was confirmed by Swansea City Ladies stalwart Ian Owen in a video update, shared on Wednesday evening, ahead of the club’s UEFA Women’s Champions League draw on Friday.

Owen confirmed that a statement would be released soon with regards to the new coaching structure, but also said that it wasn’t something the club were looking to rush into.

Appointed in August 2020, Staples guided the Swans Ladies through an the 16 game League season unbeaten, scoring 53 goals and conceding just 1 goal, whilst beating Cardiff City Women 4-1 to lift the Welsh Premier Women’s League Cup trophy.

There is no doubt that his coaching experience, which include the FA Women’s Super League, Wales Under-17 and Under-19 Ladies squads, will be missed and it will be interesting to see who, if anyone, replaces Staples.

We’d like to wish Colin all the very best for the future.
