Ynysygerwn compete in the Ardal Welsh League South West, at the same level as West End, Pontardawe and Ton Pentre.
Relaxed, friendly reception – entry & track & trace recording accomplished without any fuss.
It was evident that our youngsters were going to have a long evening battling to compete with an experienced and able opposition. To be fair to Ynysygerwn, they didn’t overstep the mark, they simple exerted their greater physical presence and match nous. The tone of the game was set by 2 goals conceded in the first 10 minutes: the first, an uncontested free header from a corner, the second, a short range follow-up to a spilled save of a long range shot.
We started slowly and even though the Llandarcy pitch looked in very good condition our passing left a lot to be desired, lots of apparently simple balls routinely overhit. Although the complexion of the team got younger and younger with 2nd half substitutions, we created a few chances and actually played far better as the game progressed. Our youngsters – including the new academy influx who played – will have learned a lot from this.
Seb Dabrowski, Zane Myers, Kyrell Wilson and all of the young subs performed creditably, particularly Cam Llewellyn on the right wing who had a great effort tipped over in the closing minutes. The Official Site line-up omits that Charlie Veevers came back onto the pitch as a 53m sub for Dylan Perkins.
Nice to make acquaintance with RGD!
