Burnley defeat is my fault says Russell Martin

The Swans four game winning streak came to an end this afternoon as they were comprehensively beaten 4-0 by high flying Burnley at Turf Moor.

Russell Martin admitted in his post-match press conference that he took responsibility for the defeat, not the players, after a miserable afternoon for the Swans in Lancashire.

Martin said – “Looking ahead to Burnley a couple of weeks ago, I had an idea in my mind of what we were going to go with but because we’d won four games in a row, we just tried to keep it the same really. I have to take responsibility for that.”

The Swans were 3-0 down at half-time, after goals from Vitinho, Jay Rodriguez and Anass Zaroury for the home side, with Nathan Tella running the Swans defence ragged throughout.

Truth be told it could have been much worse, but despite a brief flicker of hope at the start of the second half, the Swans would concede once again, as Jay Rodriguez got his second of the afternoon for the Clarets.

To heap more misery on the Swans, referee Stephen Martin showed Joel Piroe a straight red card for an apparent stamp on Josh Cullen.

For the home side, the win saw them move to the top of the Championship table, which extending their unbeaten home record this season.
