A convincing 2nd half performance gave our U21 a 4-0 win over Hull in the Premier League Cup this evening. It wasn’t easy, Hull fought hard but crumbled after the first goal immediately into the 2nd half.
Line-up: 3-5-2 : Ben Hughes; Harry Jones, Filip Lissah (captain) (s – Kai Ludvigsen 80m), Richard Faakeye; Joe Thomas, Josh Carey (s – Kyrell Wilson 53m), Kian Jenkins, Liam Smith, Nathan Tjoe-A-On (s – Zane Myers 46m); Ruben Davies (s – Ben Lloyd 53m), Kristian Fletcher.
We’d beaten Hull 4-0 at the main stadium earlier this month. This was a tougher game. The first half was pretty uneventful (I confess I turned up late, but was reliably told I hadn’t missed anything). Hull seemed pretty resolute.
Tjoe-A-On was replaced at the interval, I am sceptical as to what he offers us. 3 year contract. Fantastic business.
The 2nd half opened up with a penalty, seemed clear enough, Fletcher put it away confidently. A minute later we were 2 up when Ruben Davies brilliantly hooked in a cross. Hull pressed a little, hit the bar, Fletcher also struck the bar on 56 minutes.
Fletcher put us 3 up with a great finish on 64 minutes and the crowning moment was a sweet curling left footed goal from distance by Smith in added time. 4-0 possibly flattered us. Filip Lissah was good again. With Ginnelly out, as a left sided ball playing forward, should Liam Smith be given a first team chance? Of course he should.
