Swansea City fell to defeat at Elland Road, despite an early goal from Jamie Paterson within the first minute. Paterson deftly lobbed the ball past Illan Meslier, giving the Swans a 1-0 lead just 59 seconds into the game.
However, Leeds United quickly responded through former Swans striker Joel Piroe, creating a frenetic start to the contest. Despite the spirited play from the Swans against a home squad that boasted players with Premier League experience from the previous season, they found themselves trailing at halftime after Georginio Rutter scored just before the break.
Another former Swansea player, Dan James, further extended Leeds United’s lead in the second half, leaving Michael Duff’s Swans unable to mount a comeback despite showing some promising moments.
Swansea made one change from their weekend draw with Hull, with Josh Key stepping in for Harrison Ashby. Notably, new signing Yannick Bolasie was among the substitutes.
On the opposing side, the hosts featured three former Swans in their starting line-up, including Joe Rodon, Daniel James, and Joel Piroe.
