A competitive, sometimes feisty 2-2 draw with Cardiff City U21 this evening. We led until conceding a minute into added time to a fierce shot from Romaine Sawyers after a sequence of late corners that we couldn’t deal with. A fair result overall. We fielded another imbalanced side, this time reverting to 3-5-2: Evan Watts; …
Our very young U18 were comprehensively beaten 4-1 today by a far more powerful visiting Cardiff unit and on a bitterly cold day at Landore. We lined up initially in a 3-4-2-1 formation: Ewan Griffiths; Sam Parker, Jada Mawongo, Arthur Parker; Aimar Govea, Richard Faakye, Josh Carey (captain), Zane Myers; Dan Watts, Yori Griffith; Geoff …
A few minor gripes, but overall a great treat at Landore this evening. It seems our soft underbelly runs throughout our teams – we utterly dominated the game today, but gifted Cardiff 2 goals in short order. It would’ve been a travesty to have lost this match. We lined up 4-3-3: Ben Hughes; Joe Thomas, Kai Ludvigsen, Azeem …
A really impressive 2nd half performance from our U18. We weren’t really at the races before the interval: the formation seemed right enough, but players are being played in positions that challenge them and it seems every mistake is punished. Some tweaks by coach Darren Davies before half-time and after the interval were not the sole reason …
A short report of today’s U18s match. I stayed for 65 minutes before making my way across to the funfest due to unfold at the main stadium. It may be that we were missing players, the starting formation and selection was a little novel – essentially 3-4-1-2 as follows: Kit Margetson; Sam Parker, Jada Mawongo, Arthur …
Today’s game was screened live on the Charlton website. We went down 1-0 – quite disappointing given that Charlton missed a glut of chances and all it would’ve taken was a single slice of ambition or luck for us to have snatched what would admittedly have been a totally undeserved point. I’m afraid we betrayed …
Our U21 lost 4-1 against Arsenal in the Premier League Cup today in bucketing rain at Landore. The conditions didn’t help either side, although it’s fair to say we gifted all 4 goals through error strewn and indecisive defending – 3 goals came in the last 5 minutes of the 1st half and added time …
An excellent cup performance from our players against a very powerful Burnley side. Although the 1st half was fairly even, the visitors were much more clinical and took the chances that came their way on 22 and 42 minutes. They came close again after the interval, hitting the stanchion from close range and keeper Ben …
A really strange game today at Landore, a very poor 1st half followed by a rejuvenated and very encouraging 2nd half showing. Most of this was down to us fielding a much-changed XI, featuring a number of younger players who understandably were a little over-awed to start with, plus some slightly more experienced players who didn’t …
A very refreshing and ultimately decisive 4-0 victory for our U21 today. The heavens opened with about 20 minutes to go. Great credit to the players for continuing without any letup. The rain was biblical. Line-up in a fluid 3-4-2-1 formation: Ben Hughes; Harry Jones (sub Kai Ludvigsen 77), Brandon Cooper, Nathanael Ogbeta; Joe Thomas, Azeem Abdulai …
