I watched Wales (Cymru) C v their England counterparts this evening at Stebonheath, Llanelli. Essentially, it was the best of the Cymru Premier v English National League at non-league level (I’d say semi-pro but, in fact, all the English squad are full professionals). Cymru won 1-0 from a free kick on half-time by Caernarfon’s Sion …
A pleasing return to form and goals for our U18s this afternoon in a 5-1 at Landore against Colchester United.Colchester have been on a poor run and often looked quite overwhelmed at times today. It was though a really strong all round performance by our youngsters. Our line-up was quite fluid, but essentially 4-1-4-1: Kit …
Fantastic 3-2 win for our U21 this evening, an added time winner clinching the game after we clawed our way back from 2-1 down against a very strong Bournemouth side. Anthony Wright should be rightly proud of this great team performance. Sometimes, there are games where it all seems rather worthwhile! The portents weren’t great: …
A difficult outing today at Landore in swirling wind and rain against a Bristol City team that was physically and technically stronger. Our U18 held the score to 0-1 for some time, had a good chance to equalise early in the 2nd half, ultimately the visitors wore our youngsters down and finished the match on …
Our U18 took a chastening 5-0 loss this evening to Fulham in the rearranged FA Youth Cup tie. Sometimes you just have to acknowledge that the opposition is superior – and this evening was one of those games. Category One side Fulham even had the luxury of leaving out last week’s star performer, winger Lemar …
Something of a turnup for the books – this evening’s FA Youth Cup encounter being abandoned after a lengthy half-time delay. Although extremely chilly, the conditions weren’t appreciably worse than a few other recent games at Landore. Neither was there was any noticeable loss of control of the ball or challenges during the first half. …
A rather strange game for the U21 at a bitterly cold Landore today. 3-0 sounds decisive enough, but the referee’s histrionic performance in the final stages left a sour taste as the match descended into high farce. It was hard to keep up, but match official Corbett surpassed himself by following up Filip Lissah’s harsh …
A battling 4-2 win for our U18s today against a forceful Ipswich side that never gave up. Thomas Woodward clinched the game with his third deep into added time and as Ipswich fought gamely to find an equaliser. We lined up 3-4-2-1: Kit Margetson; Arthur Parker, Iestyn Jones, Jack Fanning (captain); Tom Searle (s – …
High anxiety at the end of a tough Nathaniel MG Cup semi-final here at Landore this evening. The Swans and Cardiff Met couldn’t be separated at 90 minutes. The 0-0 tie went straight to penalties, the Swans triumphing 5-4 when the contest moved to sudden death. A very decent crowd at the academy, with a …
A very competitive 0-0 draw today in the rain at a miserable Landore against league leaders QPR. With a team bolstered by first team squad members or those returning from injury, we lined up 4-5-1, with widemen Ogbeta and McFayden often pushed up alongside lone striker Kukharevych: Nathan Broome; Sam Parker, Nathan Wood (s – …
