4-2 sounds like a convincing enough win but, in truth, Exeter got off lightly. We’d already beaten this side 5-1 in an August friendly and today really should have scored far more goals and conceded less. Coach Darren Davies used the opportunity to trial players in different positions. We lined up as 3-4-2-1: Kit Margetson; Arthur …
A great tonic for our U21, against a side that’s given us problems in the recent past. Jon Grey didn’t appear to be there today – perhaps working? Lots of the U18 squad present, plus Tiv Rushesha, Kyle Joseph, Liam Cullen and Ollie Cooper, as well as Russell Martin arriving in the 2nd half. I’ve …
It was an unusual match in all respects. Spectators couldn’t get into the ground via the normal entrance, as there was a kids tournament taking place on the pitches closest to the Liberty and today’s stewards didn’t seem to have any knowhow as to how U18 games are run. As it was, Charlton’s team coach was delayed, …
Entertaining fare from our U21 on a sunny Bank Holiday Monday. Wigan played their part and there was a period in the 2nd half where they created plenty of chances of their own. The penalty save at 2-0 was crucial. Although he isn’t a big player, visiting centre forward Stones had given the Swans central defenders …
Swansea City Under-18s were defeated by Coventry City Under-18s in their first Premier League Development home fixture of the season. Kyrell Wilson got the afternoon off to a perfect start as put the home side in front in the 18th minute. However, it was the visitors who kept pushing and came from behind to take …
Having seen us perform so well at Haverfordwest on Saturday, I was a little disappointed with our showing today – although it has to be said that Bournemouth have some very useful players and played an intelligent game. We persisted far too long with players playing in positions that they are unsuited for and we …
A thoroughly entertaining friendly in thoroughly miserable weather! The meagre crowd had to put up with being fully exposed to the elements – the game was taking place on the open pitch nearest the academy and for which the available cover was unhelpfully roped off. There were wholesale personnel changes made by Swansea at half-time, …
No official report so far as I know, other than snippets on Haverfordwest’s Twitter account, so here’s a quick summary. The Swans team was: Archie Matthews; Filip Lissah, Harry Jones, Ben Blythe (sub Kai Ludvigsen 46m); Abdul Abdulai (sub Tarrelle Whittaker 62m); Joe Thomas (sub trialist 83m), Dan Williams, Joel Cotterill (sub Sam Leverett 62m), …
A demanding and often feisty workout for the U21 against a determined Briton Ferry Llansawel of Cymru South – and in front of a very decent and appreciative crowd at Old Road. We lined up in a familiar style: Remi Mitchell; Kai Ludvigsen, Fillip Lissah and Ben Blythe as a back 3; Azeem Abdulai pulling …
An entertaining game for a very young U21 squad on a sweltering day at Landore. No teamsheet. Stevenage turned up in a variety of different shirts, mostly unnumbered. They must have been amazed to score 2 goals, essentially due to inexplicable generosity on our part. Kris O’Leary walked in after the start, presumably fresh from the Bristol …
